MONTREAL — Just one week after giving in his resignation, Jacques Turgeon is returning to work at the CHUM, Montreal’s French-language university super hospital.
Turgeon quit last week, after accusing Quebec Health Minister Gaétan Barrette of abuse of power and political interference.
Three other CHUM board members, including president Jean-Claude Deschênes, had followed Turgeon out the door.
Quebec’s health ministry confirmed Turgeon will be returning to his job in a news release Tuesday morning, stating he had accepted the post of Director General of the new centre, which is slated to open in June 2016.

“I welcome the appointment of Mr. Turgeon,” wrote Barrette.
“He, like me, and all the CHUM staff, believe first and foremost in the health and care of the patients.”
Turgeon’s nomination will last three years, starting April 1 and running until March 31, 2018.
“His competencies will benefit all Quebecers by ensuring the new CHUM hospital will be able to welcome patients starting November 2016,” wrote Barrette.
