Crash stops railway traffic in Winnipeg, blocking intersections

WINNIPEG – Multiple intersections were blocked by trains after a collision on southbound Main Street at Jarvis Avenue closed an overpass on a major rail route through Winnipeg for almost two hours.

Paramedics took one person to hospital in unstable condition following the underpass collision at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The crash closed southbound Main Street and prompted emergency services to stop trains from using the overpass until just before 10:30 a.m. That forced trains to stop along the railway line through east Winnipeg, blocking traffic at Plessis and Gunn roads, Day Street and Risque Avenue and Redonda Street and Transport Road, police said.
