VERNON – Hundreds of ringette players are in Vernon and Lumby this weekend to take part in the 2015 B.C. Ringette Provincial Championships. It’s also a chance for some to get to know a sport they may not be too familiar with.
A crowd of elementary school students filled up the Civic Arena Friday morning giving the young ringette players the kind of welcome usually reserved for sports heroes. Filling the seats with students for a feature game was part of the local ringette association’s plan to showcase the sport during these championships.

“I tell people ringette is the best sport nobody has ever heard of. It is one of those sports where it doesn’t get a lot of publicity, but a lot of kids play it. It’s a lot of fun,” says Ian Hawes, president of the Greater Vernon Ringette Association.
The games will run through until Sunday.
