Preliminary hearing set for Calgary parents charged in baby’s death

CALGARY – A preliminary hearing date has been set for a Calgary couple accused of contributing to their toddler’s death.

Jennifer Clark, 38, and Jeromie Clark, 34, were charged with criminal negligence causing death and failure to provide the necessities of life in December of 2014 after the death of their child one year before.

14-month-old John died in hospital in November of 2013.

Police say he died one day after being brought to hospital suffering from a staph infection that was untreatable due to complications from malnutrition.

Investigators allege the family has strict dietary restrictions based on their faith and nutritional beliefs.

The three-day hearing, which will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial, is scheduled for Nov. 2nd, 2015.
