The Mounties say the bizarre misadventure started Monday around 2 p.m. when a snowmobiler was trying to cross the two-lane highway west of St. Jude's, N.L. File / Global News

WEST KELOWNA – Two more child luring attempts in the Central Okanagan have RCMP putting out another warning to parents. Constable Kris Clark with Kelowna RCMP says in the last three weeks, there have been three reported child luring attempts in the area.

He says Tuesday evening around 7:18 p.m., two 15-year-old West Kelowna boys were walking in the area of Westlake Road near Stevens Road when an unknown man in a red pickup truck offered them a ride.

Clark says the boys declined the offer and kept walking but the man drove around the traffic circle, came back to them and told them to get into the vehicle. He says the boys ignored him and continued on their way.

Clark adds a vehicle license plate number wasn’t obtained and the description of the man is limited but the vehicle is somewhat unique. It was a red pickup truck with a white stripe from the front to rear wheel wells. The man is Caucasian, 50 to 60-years-old and has short grey hair.

A similar, but unrelated incident occurred a few weeks ago on February 13 and was reported to police.

“A 10-year-old West Kelowna boy was walking in the area of Westlake Road and West Kelowna Road when a man in an older, black, boxy car offered him a ride,” explains Clark. “The boy declined and the man drove away.”

Clark says the description of the man in this incident is also limited but he was seen wearing a fedora-style hat with a large chain around his neck.

Clark says there isn’t any information that suggests these two incidents are related to the attempted luring case in Kelowna last Thursday. A man tried to lure a 10-year-old boy when he was riding his scooter near Gramiak Road and Mary Court.

“Parents are reminded to discuss the importance of safety with their children to ensure they have the tools necessary to protect themselves,” says Clark.
