UPDATE – The search for the missing woman has come to a sad end.
Vernon RCMP report people fishing in the Salmon Lake area south-west of Falkland found Derenowski’s body Wednesday afternoon.
Police says it appears her truck got stuck in snow on a road not maintained for winter use.
Derenowski likely succumbed to cold weather when she walked away from her vehicle.
The Coroners Service is investigating the circumstances of her death.
VERNON – A 73-year-old woman with dementia has gone missing from her Enderby home. Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Barbara Nell Derenowski. Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP Spokesperson Gordon Molendyk says Derenowski was last seen by her care worker at her home at 118 Salmon Arm Drive around 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
Molendyk adds Derenowski’s 1998 Ford extended cab pickup truck is also missing from her residence. The truck, which is similar to the one in the photo below, bears B.C. license plate number FF5598. Molendyk says Derenowski is described as 5’9” tall with a medium build and has long hair which is dyed red and worn in a braid.
Molendyk says Derenowski does not have a valid driver’s license. Anyone with information about Derenowski’s whereabouts is asked to contact RCMP.
