Vancouver city council has unanimously approved the motion to rename a city block to Pat Quinn Way as a tribute to a hockey legend who passed away last November.
The motion was put forward by city staff and and Civic Asset Naming Committee.
The 700-block of Abbott St will now be renamed into “Pat Quinn Way.”
Quinn, a former Vancouver Canucks coach and co-owner of the Vancouver Giants, passed away at the age of 71 after a lengthy battle with illness.
A push to rename the street followed his death in December.
There is also a movement to rename the Pacific Coliseum, home of the Vancouver Canucks for many years, ‘Pat Quinn Arena’.
