REGINA – The province-wide traffic spotlight this month is tackling seatbelt safety. Throughtout March, Saskatchewan police are putting extra effort into catching unbuckled motorists in the act.

Seatbelts can decrease the chances of sustaining serious injury in traffic collisions by up to 50 per cent, according to statistics from Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI).

SGI says improper or non-seatbelt use contributed to 27 deaths and 204 injuries on provincial roads in 2013. Three of the fatalities were children under the age of seven.
