Police charge Bonnyville man with murder in wife’s death

EDMONTON – A 41-year-old man will appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court Tuesday morning charged with second-degree murder in the death of his common-law wife.

Christopher Daniel McCallum lived in the residence with the woman, who is not being identified by RCMP at the request of her family.

RCMP say they were called to the home at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, after the suspect called police to report that a 34-year-old woman was unconscious.

The 34-year-old woman was found dead by EMS and RCMP responding to the call, and McCallum was arrested and charged with murder.

RCMP say their early investigation indicates there had been a physical altercation between the people sometime that morning.

The woman’s death was determined to be a homicide by the medical examiner. RCMP say she died from injuries suffered during a physical assault.

RCMP say the victim and the accused were known to police, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the death.
