HALIFAX- The owner of a large sum of money found at a Dartmouth thrift story earlier this month has been located.
Thousands of dollars in several envelopes were found bundled in a set of donated drapes by an employee at the Value Village Thrift Store in Dartmouth.
Value Village company policy is to contact police on such matters, and officers responded to the call on February 9.
Police say information inside the envelopes indicated the money would have been withdrawn in 2006 from a Guysborough County bank. Police issued a media release on February 13 in an attempt to locate the owner.
WATCH: Police hope to return money found amongst donated goods
Police say that a woman contacted them earlier this month and said she had donated personal belongings of a loved one who passed away in January 2015 to charity.
Halifax Regional Police say that investigators were able to verify through the woman and the bank that the money belonged to the person who had passed away. The money has since been turned over to the next of kin.
Police say that they thank the employee of the Dartmouth thrift store who found the money and did the right thing by turning it over to police so that it could be returned to the rightful owner.
