Candy Cane Lane proposed for Kelowna neighbourhood

It is the time of year when homes are decorated and lit up for the holiday season.

But this year, in one Kelowna neighbourhood, efforts are underway to create a light extravaganza that will draw people from all over the city.

Damjam Madjar is spearheading an effort to turn his Rutland neighbourhood into what is commonly referred to as Candy Cane Lane.

Madjar says the area is a perfect spot to create a Candy Cane Lane since the decorated streets, Gramiak Road and Mary Court, are in the shape of a candy cane.

He has written letters to his neighbours asking them to take part and on Saturday, a number of households were out busily decorating their homes and yards, putting up lights and inflating gigantic snowmen and other Christmas characters.

The goal of Candy Cane Lane is to have a donation box at each end of the street so that people coming to see it can donate non-perishable food items for the food bank.
