WATCH: We are getting a first hand look at the large amounts of cash spent on swaying your vote in the recent civic election. Jeremy Hunka breaks down the numbers.
Vision Vancouver dolled out a record amount during last year’s civic election, outspending its rival by seven figures in what has become the most expensive campaign in the city’s history, new documents show.
In order for Gregor Robertson and most of his slate to claim victory at city hall, Vision Vancouver spent $3,313,449.89.
But it had amassed $2,920,232.68 in donations, leaving a nearly $400,000 deficit.
Contributions to Vision Vancouver, ranging from as little as $15 to $100,000, came from both individuals and businesses, including Aquilini Development, Concord Pacific, Glowbal Group, and Vancouver Taxi Association.
In comparison, NPA spent just over two million dollars, with a surplus of more than $200,000.
Analysts say it is a clear sign that politics these days involves deep financial resources.
