KIEV, UKRAINE – A group of activists gathered on Tuesday outside the Russian embassy in Kiev to demand release of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko who has been imprisoned in Russia since June.
Savchenko has been on hunger strike for the past 74 days to protest a court decision to keep her in prison.

The Ukrainian air force officer, who was captured in June, is in prison awaiting trial on charges of involvement in the killing of two Russian journalists during the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Her sister Vira, who also took part in the demonstration on Tuesday, said she hoped her the pilot’s detention could be changed to house arrest while she awaits the beginning of trial proceedings.
