KELOWNA–Transportation options in Kelowna’s Mission area are about to get better.
Design plans are being finalized for a transit exchange on South Pandosy in front of the Mission Park Shopping Centre.
An information session was held in the Urban Fare restaurant Thursday night to present the new design plans.
Besides areas for buses, the project also includes bike lanes and additional on-street parking.
The biggest concern consultants heard from the public is that the move will narrow the existing roadway, but planners with the City of Kelowna say busses stopping to pick people up are already blocking traffic.
“It does make sense,” says Andrew Albiston, project manager with the city of Kelowna.
“We are still able to accommodate future traffic volumes, but also have safe pedestrian crossings and accommodate transit.”
The work is expected to be complete in June, in time for Kelowna’s busy tourist season.
