NDP says $842-million electronic health project at risk

WATCH: It looks like another expensive computer system purchased by the B.C. government is causing big problems. Kylie Stanton reports.

VICTORIA – B.C.’s New Democrats say an $842-million electronic health records project faces completion delays and may be at risk.

Health critic Judy Darcy says she has leaked documents that reveal the project is behind schedule and could soon be in arbitration with software giant IBM.

Three health authorities are involved in the effort to integrate patient services and records electronically.

Darcy says the leaked documents show the project’s September 2015 roll out date has been delayed and new timelines have yet to be determined.

She says the leaked documents also show that senior health officials and IBM are negotiating in an effort to avoid a dispute that could lead to arbitration.
