Children’s show ‘Wingin’ It’ wins $50,000 Shaw Rocket Prize

OTTAWA – The children’s program “Wingin’ It,” about an angel in training and a high school student, has won the $50,000 Shaw Rocket Prize.

The show, from Toronto-based Temple Street Productions, edged out four other programs to take the prize. It airs on Family Channel and Disney XD Canada and is distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.

The prize was presented Tuesday in Ottawa by Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.

The four other shows for kids aged 6-12 feted at the ceremony were: “dirtgirlworld,” “My Babysitter’s a Vampire – The Movie,” “Survive This” and “Wibbly Pig.”

A jury of industry experts picked five finalists, and then a jury of kids from across Canada selected the winner.

The Shaw Rocket Fund is a not-for-profit corporation that focuses on excellence in the Canadian children’s programming.

Fund contributors include Shaw Communications, Shaw Pay Per View Ltd., Shaw Direct, EastLink Cablesystems, and Delta Cable Communications Ltd.
