VANCOUVER – A convicted serial killer has been handed another life term for his latest murder – this one committed behind bars in a B.C. prison.
Michael Wayne McGray admitted murdering his 33-year-old cell mate, Jeremy Phillips, a year ago at the Mountain Institution in the Fraser Valley east of Vancouver.
He was given a life sentence, with no chance of parole for 25 years.
McGray was already serving six concurrent life sentences for other killings when he attacked Phillips and then confessed to the crime immediately.
McGray has said in a past interview with The Canadian Press that he wanted psychiatric treatment for the “demons” that sent him on his killing spree.
McGray, who will be 72 before he can apply for parole, has claimed he killed 16 people across North America.
