Hundreds affected by YLW flight delays, cancellations

KELOWNA — It was a foggy morning at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) causing delays and cancellations. While things have cleared up now, the effects of the earlier holdups are still being felt. Airport Director Sam Samaddar says about 1,000 people have been affected.

“We’ve had at least three cancelled flights, our morning bank of flights actually got out okay so that wasn’t an issue but around 8 o’clock we saw visibility conditions being reduced dramatically,” says Samaddar.

He says another five flights were delayed by anywhere between an hour and a half to two and a half hours.

“Air Canada has also put out a diversion which means they’re sending an extra flight that will come in around 3 o’clock in the afternoon that will try to pick up some of those cancelled flights,” he says.

He says there is some frustration by those who have had to wait to either land or depart from YLW and encourages people to take a look at the online flight schedule for updates. He says compared to recent years, this season has lead to more flight delays due to poor visibility.
