HALIFAX – Four teenagers are expected in court Friday following a dramatic home invasion in central Halifax Thursday afternoon.
Halifax Regional Police report that shortly after 3 p.m., four intruders broke into an apartment on Binney Street armed with what’s believed to be a shotgun.
Some items were taken and the intruders made off in a light coloured car.
There was a large and immediate police response in the area as multiple units moved into respond to the home invasion call.
The suspects and the vehicle were spotted a short time later in the vicinity of Abbott Drive and Joseph Howe Drive in the city’s west end.
Police stopped the vehicle and immediately apprehended three suspects but a fourth took off into the grounds of the Old Ashburn Golf Course.
After a brief chase that person was taken into custody too.
A firearm was recovered from the vehicle.
Police closed off a number of streets in the area, which threw late afternoon traffic into chaos in the area.
Three 17-year old boys will appear in Halifax Youth Court, and an 18-year old man will appear in Halifax Provincial Court. All of them are facing charges of break and enter, robbery, disguise with intent, breach of probation, and various weapons charges.
