Head of B.C.’s IIO in Denver for sexual discrimination lawsuit

Richard Rosenthal, Chief Civilian Director of the Independent Investigations Office, is in Denver to face a sexual discrimination launched by his former deputy in his previous job.

The man in charge of B.C.’s police oversight body is in a Denver court this week facing allegations of sexual discrimination.

Richard Rosenthal, the Chief Civilian Director of the Independent Investigations Office, is named in a lawsuit launched by a former Denver police watchdog against the city.

The plantiff, Valerie Arnold, was Rosenthal’s deputy in the Denver Independent Monitor Office, which Rosenthal led from 2005 to 2012. She’s alleging that Rosenthal increased her workload and lowered her job rating after complaining of discrimination, the Denver Post is reporting.

As Denver’s Independent Monitor, Rosenthal was responsible for oversight of the city and county’s sheriff and police departments. He has led B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office since it was founded in 2012.

Rosenthal has pleaded not guilty and none of the allegations have been proven in court.
