EDMONTON – About 30 RCMP officers have descended upon a landfill just outside Lloydminster to search for evidence in a “sensitive” investigation.

Police are saying little about what exactly they are looking for in the landfill site.

“We are not looking for anything that is a danger to the public,” said Sgt. Patrick Webb. He said details about the search will not be immediately released to protect the integrity of the investigation.

A few officers arrived at the landfill Thursday. Additional members of the RCMP’s special tactical operations team arrived at the site Friday to conduct the search, Webb said.

More information about the search will be released as it becomes available, Webb said. Lloydminster is 250 kilometres east of Edmonton.
