An Indian song with mostly nonsensical lyrics has gone viral on the Internet, with Salman Rushdie calling it the catchiest number since “Macarena.”
Radio stations across the subcontinent are playing “Why This Kolaveri, Di?” from the upcoming Tamil film “3.”
The video was released on YouTube last week and quickly amassed more than 4.7 million views.

It got a major boost when Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan tweeted about the Tamil-English song about failed romance.
On Thursday, Rushdie tweeted: “India obsessed by … the most ridiculously catchy song since Macarena.”
While “Kolaveri” literally means a murderous rage, it is also popular urban slang for any kind of anger.
