Nova Scotia legislature to resume next month, session expected to include budget

HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia legislature will resume March 26.

This spring session is expected to include a budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year.

The province released a slimmed-down capital spending plan in December that will be tabled during this session.

The government says it intends to spend $490 million on highways, schools, hospitals and equipment in next fiscal year – the smallest capital budget in seven years.

The province is operating with a projected budget deficit of $220.6 million for 2014-15 and the government has said it needs to restrain spending as it is faces a sluggish economy.
