A 53-year-old man wearing nothing but his cowboy hat was spotted walking down the middle of Interstate 75 in Detroit, Michigan Sunday.
Police say that he had driven his car into a ditch and began to strip down for reasons that remain unclear.
One report indicates that police believe the man was suffering from “excited delirium syndrome,” which typically affects individuals with a history of using stimulants.
Police were able to convince the man to let them take him under custody and away from the freeway traffic.
They were transporting him to a fire station where an ambulance was waiting, during which time the man became unresponsive. Once transferred into the ambulance, he regained consciousness and became combative.
Paramedics and police were able to restrain him and take him to a hospital to be evaluated.
