Balzac Billy predicts an early spring

CALGARY – Albertans will see an early spring, according to prairie prognosticator Balzac Billy.

The ‘groundhog’ did not see his shadow when he crawled from his burrow in Balzac, Alberta on Monday morning.

Billy waved to throngs of excited children who gathered to watch the event at the Blue Grass Garden Centre, south of Airdrie.

Billy’s prediction is the same as Ontario’s Wiarton Willie, but differed from Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam who saw his shadow, signaling six more weeks of winter.
