Treacherous conditions forecast on Coquihalla Highway - image

 A Travel Advisory has been issued for the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt.

Travel on Highway 5 is not recommended tonight as a snow storm moves into the region. Freezing rain is expected to turn to heavy snow at about 5 p.m. Monday.

The Advisory was issued at 3 p.m. by the BC Ministry of Transportation.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly and stay that way for 48 hours.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for the Fraser Canyon, Arrow Lakes and Boundary Regions surrounding the Okanagan Valley. Also significantly affected are the Kootenay and Columbia Regions.

About 15 cm of snow is expected to fall in those areas tonight with blowing snow moving through as winds pick up after midnight.

The exception is the Poulson Pass on Highway 3 which is forecast to receive upwards of 30 cm of snow tonight.

The weather system that is bringing snow to the Southern Interior areas surrounding the Okanagan Valley is expected to stick around for 48 hours.

The Okanagan Valley may see about 5 cm of snow in the next day.
