UBC-Okanagan students vote in favour of higher U-Pass fee

 Up until now, students at UBC-Okanagan have been paying $45 a semester for unlimited transit trips.

On Friday, students voted overwhelmingly in support of increasing that fee from the current $45 to $54 per semester.

The referendum was necessary to determine whether students were willing to pay more as part of the 2012 general transit far increase.

Kelowna Regional Transit had the right to terminate the U-Pass agreement if the result of the referendum had been a no vote.

The U-Pass program went into effect in 2007 and is now a part of student fees.
