Lawton returns to defend Sask. women’s championship title

ASSINIOBOIA, Sask. – The best Saskatchewan women’s curlers stepped up in Assinioboia, Sask. to see who would represent the province at nationals. It came down to a battle between clubs from Saskatoon and Regina in the final Sunday.

Last January, Stefanie Lawton beat Michelle Englot’s team in the provincial women’s championship in Tisdale, Sask.

Team Lawton went on to represent Saskatchewan at nationals in 2014 and came in fourth place.

On Sunday, Lawton once again faced Regina’s Team Englot in the final. Lawton’s crew, from the Nutana Curling Club, won 6-3.

Stefanie Lawton, Sherry Anderson, Sherri Singler, Marliese Kasner and coach Rick Folk will now represent Saskatchewan at the Scotties Tournaments of Hearts which starts Feb. 12 in Moose Jaw, Sask.

Twelve teams took part at the 2015 Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts between Jan. 21 and 25 in the Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Center.
