Premium theatre coming to Edmonton’s Arena District

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Arena District has received a boost as Cineplex Entertainment has announced plans to open a premium theatre in the area.

The theatre is scheduled to open in 2018 and will feature five VIP Cinemas, two UltraAVX auditoriums and a licenced lounge, similar to what is offered at the Cineplex Odeon Windermere and VIP in southwest Edmonton.

“We are proud to bring one of Canada’s most cutting-edge and luxurious movie theatres to the exciting downtown Edmonton Arena District,” said Ellis Jacob, President and CEO, Cineplex Entertainment.

The adult-only VIP Cinemas offer reserved seating and service at your seat from an expanded menu, which includes alcoholic drinks. Movie-goers can also enjoy food and drinks in the lounge before a movie.

The UltraAVX auditoriums also offer reserved seating, as well as larger screens than those in traditional Cinemas, ultra-HD projection and Dolby Atmos surround sound.

“The new Cineplex Cinemas Downtown Edmonton and VIP will be a premier movie theatre, offering a complete entertainment experience for Edmontonians and visitors to the EAD,” said Darren Durstling, President and CEO, WAM Development Group.

The theatre will be located on 103 Street, between 103 and 104 Avenue.
