WATCH: SpaceX releases video of barge landing attempt

TORONTO – On Friday, SpaceX released video of its attempt to land the first stage of its Falcon 9 rocket on an ocean platform following last weekend’s launch to the International Space Station.

The video shows the rocket reaching the ocean barge, then veering off at an angle before exploding and breaking into pieces.

This was the first time SpaceX attempted to make such a landing following a crew resupply mission. It has made two other attempts, none of which resulted in the safe landing of the rocket.

Founder Elon Musk tweeted that the loss of the rocket was because it ran out of hydraulic fluid. He said that the rocket in the next attempt — scheduled for April 8 — will have 50 per cent more hydraulic fluid.

And in typical fashion, Musk approached the next launch with humour.
