Arson suspected in Montreal Lake, Sask. fire

RCMP say arson is the probable cause of a fire that damaged three administrative offices at the Montreal Lake First Nations band office in northern Saskatchewan on Monday.

Mounties say the fire started in the office and was contained in that area. Officers used fire extinguishers to try and control the fire before fire fighters arrived.

The heat and smoke from the blaze forced members out of the area but they were able to close all doors and windows to shut off oxygen sources.

The RCMP detachment, located on the first floor of the band office, was not damaged.

RCMP officials say the fire is not seen as an attack on the property of the RCMP.

Investigators are now trying to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
