Surveillance video footage shows the young boy crouching down over a manhole to ignite a firecracker with a lighter. Suddenly, an explosion occurs, sending the boy more than 10 metres through the air before hitting the back of a nearby car.

It is believed that the blast was caused by highly-explosive biogas that had accumulated inside the sewer, according to residents in the neighborhood.

The boy suffered a severe head injury and several broken bones. Doctors have said he is now in stable condition.
