Husband, wife die after collision near Elrose, Sask.

ELROSE, Sask. – An elderly couple is dead after a car and a semi collided around five kilometres south of Elrose, Sask. on Monday. RCMP investigation has revealed that a northbound Chevrolet Impala lost control and collided with a southbound semi-tractor trailer unit.

The two vehicle collision occurred five kilometres south of the town on Highway 4 around 11:15 a.m.

The car was driven by a 77-year-old woman who was declared dead at the scene. An 81-year-old passenger in the back seat was taken to hospital in Rosetown, Sask. where he too was pronounced dead.

The victims’ names are not being released. They were a husband and wife from Kyle, Sask.

There was a second 77-year-old woman in the car who sustained what were reported to be serious injuries who is in a Saskatoon hospital.

The 54-year-old semi driver was not injured.

An RCMP collision analyst unit attended the crash scene and the investigation is ongoing.  Mounties said road conditions in the area were reported as icy.
