UPDATE: Kelowna RCMP say a 48-year old Kelowna woman suffered extensive traumatic injuries and died at the scene. Police say witnesses saw the driver cross two lanes of traffic and crashed into a commercial vehicle going the other way. The two people in the commercial truck suffered minor injuries.
UPDATE: Highway 97 re-opened to traffic just before 5 p.m. The BC Coroners service was called to the scene, but police aren’t releasing any further details as they are still trying to contact next of kin.
KELOWNA — A serious crash has closed Highway 97 in both directions near Duck Lake, north of the Kelowna airport.
“Initial reports indicate a white SUV in the southbound lanes crossed into the north bound lanes colliding with a semi tractor trailer,” says Kelowna RCMP Sgt. Brad Swecera.
The highway will remain closed until police finish their investigation.
