Man on trial for first-degree murder in death of Sask. couple

BATTLEFORD, Sask. – The trial of a man accused of killing a couple from west central Saskatchewan is underway in Battleford. The bodies of Genne and Teresa Nolin were discovered in their home outside of Rapid View on Oct. 29, 2012.

The 19-year-old man pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of first-degree murder after the Crown rejected his attempt to plead guilty to second-degree murder.

The accused cannot be named because he was 17 at the time. He was arrested in Prince Albert the same day the bodies were discovered.

The judge alone trial heard police evidence of what was found at the crime scene and details of the arrest of the suspect.

The Nolins were well known in the community for their involvement in chuckwagon racing and their work with foster children.
