WATCH: Puppy survives knitting needle stab through heart

Tutti’s owners Chris Shaw and Bradley Justice call her their “little miracle dog,” and rightly so.

The four-month-old Papillon recently survived after accidentally impaling herself in the heart with a knitting needle on New Year’s Eve.

Shaw and Justice are unsure how it happened, but speculate that Tutti jumped from the sofa and onto the coffee table where the knitting needles were laying.

“She went limp and stuck her tongue out,” said Shaw to WNCN. “We thought she had expired.”

Just as Shaw and Justice started to mourn, Tutti suddenly opened her eyes and wagged her tail as if nothing was wrong.

She was rushed to the veterinary hospital in Durham, North Carolina where veterinary cardiologist Dr. Jennifer Myers had to decide whether to operate or pull the needle out which was lodged two inches into the dog’s heart.

Fortunately, the knitting needle was small enough that there was minimal bleeding around it, and the doctor was able to carefully pull it out without causing more damage.

Today, there’s barely any indication of the entire ordeal on Tutti’s chest or in her demeanour.

“She just acts like, ‘What’s the big deal?’” said Shaw. “She loves all the attention.”
