EDMONTON – STARS Air Ambulance was called to the scene of a crash on the QEII highway Thursday afternoon.

The RCMP says a transport truck had stopped on the highway at 12:20 p.m. when it was hit from behind by a heavy machinery vehicle. Fire crews and paramedics responded, and the driver of the heavy machinery vehicle was pulled from under the cab, but wasn’t seriously injured.

The truck was carrying Pepsi and spilled its cargo on QEII at Highway 616, just south of the Millet overpass. Millet is about 54 kilometres south of Edmonton.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed to traffic for about four hours. Motorists were told to expect delays since there was debris on both lanes of the highway and clean-up was underway.

The highway was reopened by about 4:30 p.m. The crash is being investigated.
