RCMP Major Crimes Unit called to Strathmore for suspected homicide

CALGARY – The RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating a suspected homicide in the town of Strathmore.

Police were called to a fourplex in the 100 block of 6th Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. by a woman.

When they arrived, Mounties discovered the same woman dead at the scene.

“The 911 call requesting assistance by the female came from the residence we attended,” says S/Sgt. Kevin Reilly. “A few minutes after that call was made, members of the Strathmore detachment attended the residence and found a deceased adult female.”

RCMP say her death is considered suspicious, adding they had never been called to the address before.

Officers aren’t saying whether a broken window on the rear door of the residence is part of their investigation.

A neighbour said he is concerned about the residents in the fourplex, including a young couple that lives in one of the downstairs suites.

“They seemed very nice and nothing abnormal with them,” said he said of the people he met while out walking his dog.

RCMP investigators are still interviewing witnesses and gathering physical evidence at the scene.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Strathmore is located about 50 kilometers east of Calgary.
