Family and friends gathered Saturday to pay their final respects to Amaria Diljohn, a 14-year-old girl struck and killed by a TTC bus on Dec. 19.

“Whenever she did any Sunday school presentation, she absolutely glowed,” said Sandra Peterson Downing, a family friend. “It’s so hard to see somebody so young go so quickly, but she was a delightful young lady.”

Mourners said the funeral, which included tributes from Diljohn’s teachers and grandparents, was imbued with a sense of community.

“It was a great way to help us remember her,” said Shailana Williams, a friend who attended the ceremony.

Diljohn was struck at the corner of Neilson Rd. and Finch Ave. near her home. The 27-year-old driver, who did not remain at the scene of the accident, has not been charged.
