WATCH: Man has car part removed from his arm decades after crash

CREVE COEUR, Mo. – A 75-year-old Illinois man has had an unusual surgery — to remove a 7-inch turn signal lever from his left arm.

Fifty-one years ago, Arthur Lampitt smashed his 1963 Thunderbird into a truck.

His fractured hip drew attention away from his injured arm, which eventually healed.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Lampitt’s wife Betty says everything was fine until her husband’s arm started getting bigger and hurt just a few weeks ago for the first time.

X-rays showed the lever in his arm.
