TORONTO – A little boy is lucky to be alive after jumping from a burning building in what can only be described as a Christmas miracle.
A fire broke out inside the Valley Brook Apartments complex in Birmingham, Alabama early Thursday morning – Christmas day.
Cell phone video, recorded by resident Kerry Jackson, shows the dramatic moment the boy falls into a neighbour’s arms.
“I really didn’t have any emotion running through me at the time. It was just like, I need him, we need him to jump,” Jackson told ABC 13.
FOX 6 reports that it was Jackson’s cousin who caught the child – allegedly thrown by a firefighter from the top of a staircase between apartments.
“One of the children didn’t want to jump. We had to actually pressure him to jump,” Jackson told WBRC.
WBRC reports that food left cooking unattended on a stove was the cause of the fire.
Two adults and four children were injured in the blaze – two critically. However, all are expected to survive.
Local reporter Carol Robinson has indicated that four homes were destroyed in the fire.
