Toronto – New numbers out Friday are painting a grim picture of Canada’s employment landscape.
A Statistics Canada report shows that the national unemployment rate rose two points in October, hitting 7.3 percent after the economy lost 54, 000 jobs nation-wide.
That’s the biggest one month job loss for Canada since March 2009.
For Ontario, the picture is even more disheartening.
While the national unemployment rate averages out to 7.3 percent, for Ontario the unemployment rate was 8.1 percent. That’s up from 7.6 percent in September.

The province shed 75, 400 jobs in October, but picked up 36, 600 part-time jobs.
Most of the losses are in the manufacturing and construction sectors, two major industries for Ontario.
