Long-lost sister may hold key to man’s vision being restored

CALGARY- A Calgary man who is blind is searching for a long-lost sister he’s never met before in the hopes she’ll be able to help restore his vision.

Doctors tell Danny Wolsey his biological sister holds the DNA that would provide a perfect match for a stem cell implantation that could help him to see.

But Wolsey has never met his sister. He was adopted as a baby and only met his biological mother before she lost her battle with lung cancer.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

No, Wolsey and his fiancée are embarking on a mission to track down his sister.

“For a blind guy, it’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack,” said Wolsey. “When I go to sleep, it’s the only time I see… I would do anything to get my eyesight back.”

Wolsey’s fiancée says while both of them would love it if he could actually see her, they’ve made the best of the situation.

“We’ve only known life together as it is right now… him in the dark,” said Janna Isherwood. “You really get to know someone on the inside when you don’t have the advantage of judging someone’s exterior, that’s the beauty of our relationship.”

Wolsey says he is making progress in his attempt to find his sister. He says he now knows she was born in Calgary in October of 1964 and that she was later adopted by a Catholic family with four children, three brothers and one sister.
