WINNIPEG – Two people were hurt – one seriously – in an explosion and chemical spill at a Winnipeg aerospace plant Thursday morning.
Fire crews were called to Standard Aero on Sargent Avenue near the airport at about 11 a.m. Two men were taken to hospital, one in serious condition to the burn unit at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre.
Officials say a container containing a chemical exploded.
The fire department’s hazardous materials unit also arrived on scene, along with the fire-paramedic service’s jumbo sized MIRV ambulance.
The building was evacuated for a short period of time.
