Calgarians were introduced on Wednesday to the “Arts Commons” – formally called the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts.
The name change was announced at the centre’s annual general meeting, aiming to identify the centre as an open, creative gathering space with multiple venues that facilitate various genres of art.
A rebranding exercise that started last spring led to the name change.
“This new name reflects the momentum that the centre has been gaining over the last few years, and best communicates where we want to be as part of Calgary’s cultural landscape,” said Johann Zietsman, president and CEO of the new Arts Commons.

Other changes coming to the centre include updated signage, improved way-finding and a new volunteer concierge program.
A new cafe will also open called “Ca’Puccini” by Teatro Group.
These changes will happen over the first half of the new year leading up to a spring launch event planned for May 14, 2015.
“The rebrand is not just about a new logo,” said Henry Sykes, chair of the Arts Commons Board of Directors.
“It is about increasing awareness, and creating a better experience for both our resident companies and our patrons. It is about being welcoming and open to all.”
