Cree Nation denounces uranium development

MONTREAL – Marchers from the Grand Cree Nation in Northern Quebec arrived in Montreal for the last session of public hearings on issues surrounding the Quebec uranium industry.

“The group has walked 815 kilometers and this is something that we take to heart,” said one of the women, who walked for 23 days.

“We want our land to be uranium free.”

The Cree Nation has led the charge against uranium development in the province.

The Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador and the Inuit of northern Quebec are also in town and will join the Cree Nation in their vocal opposition to uranium development.
