Celebration of Life held for Adrienne Pace

WATCH: A celebration of life was held for a 44-year-old Port Coquitlam woman today. Adrienne Pace spent the last two decades battling kidney disease. Nadia Stewart reports.

A Celebration of Life was held today for Adrienne Pace, who died last week after two decades fighting kidney disease.

“What I most remember about Adrienne was her boldness in the face of all of this. Her smile through it all,” said Scott Young, the Coquitlam Fire and Rescue Chaplain who oversaw the service.

Pace, 44, passed away in the early morning hours on December 5, three weeks after choosing to end her longtime medical battle.

She was on a donor list but had failed to find a match. Pace estimated sheds been on dialysis for roughly 10 years and could not see relying on it for a lifetime.

There are about 500 people on the waiting list for a life-saving transplant – and 400 of those are waiting for a kidney.

While 95 per cent of B.C. residents support organ donation according to BC Transplant, only 19 per cent have actually signed up to give.
