ASIRT investigates southeast crash

CALGARY – The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate a crash that injured two people in the city’s southeast Thursday morning.

The crash happened at around 11:30 a.m. in the community of Douglasdale.

Police say it all began when a truck left a parking lot at a high rate of speed. Officers in a marked police cruiser turned on the flashing lights in an attempt to pull over the truck, but when the vehicle sped off, police say the officers ‘disengaged’.

Moments later the truck ran a red light at an intersection at 130th Avenue and 46th Street S.E., T-boning the driver’s side of a white car and hitting another vehicle waiting to make a left turn.

The man driving the truck and a female passenger then both fled the scene on foot. The driver was arrested a short distance away while police were still searching for the woman.
