TORONTO — Fans of Avril Lavigne are sending best wishes to the Canadian pop star on social media after she reportedly revealed she is suffering from an undisclosed illness.
Lavigne hasn’t been photographed in public since celebrating her 30th birthday in Las Vegas on Sept. 28.
“I feel bad because I haven’t been able to say anything to the fans to let them no (sic) why I’ve been absent,” Lavigne reportedly told the fan behind @AvrilMusicChart via direct message on Sunday.
“I’m not feeling well. I’m having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers.”
Lavigne seemed to confirm the legitimacy of the quotes when she replied to well wishes from @AvrilMusicChart on Twitter with a simple “thank you.”
Lavigne has not directly commented on her health on Twitter or Facebook. A representative for the singer could not be reached for comment.
The Ontario-born “Complicated” singer has been plagued by rumours that she has split from her husband, Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger, whom she married on Canada Day in 2013.
But, during a recent press tour to promote Nickleback’s new album, Kroeger dismissed the reports.
“You know, I get to hear all the rumour mill stuff,” he told ET Canada. “I find it very amusing.”

In April, Lavigne’s ex-husband, Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley, was hospitalized with organ failure. He later revealed he had collapsed after years of alcohol abuse.
Lavigne told a Toronto radio station in June that she was proud of Whibley for giving up booze.
“I love Deryck very much. He’s family to me,” she said. “He’s a good guy and I want him to be happy and healthy.”
