A dead southern resident orca has been discovered off Vancouver Island.
The whale was spotted near Courtenay on Bates Beach.
A former DFO employee who owns a resort nearby was asked to tow the animal to shore so officials could examine it.
She was one of only a handful of southern resident orcas left off the coast of B.C.
Scientists say she could have died during childbirth; something they say is becoming more common.
